Kelsie: Hi, Joyce! I have to say that the first time I saw this picture, it gave me a feeling of horror and weird mainly because of the darkness and the strange faces. But it is this weird feeling that makes it attractive. This work is very delicate that you want to take a very close look at the smallest lines. It combines different objects looking quite illogical and surreal and also the mixture of body and other objects creates a sense of black humor. For example at the bottom left the face of a dead pongo was combined with a stump which looks like a big monster feet.
ReplyDeleteIn a word it is an interesting picture and your analysis is excellent!
Jacqueline: In my opinion pattern is important in this drawing as we see a marked repetition of sharp lines that serve to express the element of danger. Upon close observation of the drawing,I immediately get a sense of feeling threaten by the monster- like creatures but at the same time I feel the sharp patterns (Pointy-sharp edge leaves and hairline, as well as the horrific spiky cone heads further intensifies this feeling.
ReplyDeleteLily:
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with you that the rhythm is important in this picture. The curve lines in this picture really show the movement. When I first saw this picture, I really afraid of it because of the subject matters in this picture. However, I think the artist made use of the tone to give a obvious sense of horror.
Carol: Joyce, a good analysis though one that would benefit by greater detail and depth, and constructive comments on others' work. Well done.
